Michael Wolf was born in Munich, Germany, but moved to Hong Kong in 1994, where he worked for 8 years as a contract photographer for Stern Magazine. Since 2001 Wolf has been working on his own projects and exhibitions, many which have been published as books.
Wolf’s work focuses on life in mega cities, many of his projects document the architecture and vernacular culture of metropolises. Growing up in Canada, Europe and the United States, his work is that of an outsider, he manages to portray significance in what are predominantly seen as insignificant everyday moments.
Wolf has exhibited across the globe, in many galleries including Flowers Gallery, London, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, Aperture Gallery, New York and many more.
We had the opportunity to frame work for Wolf’s show ‘Architecture of Density’ which was held at Flowers Gallery in London, 2014.
We used ash with a spray light finish, in dark grey, the dark colour of the frame brings out the brightness of the architecture, and doesn’t distract from the photograph itself.
